The La Fuente Centre is a vast, sprawling restaurant and entertainment complex situated in the inland part of Orihuela Costa not far from La Zenia. It is situated between the residential areas of Campoamor as well as Villamartin and is popular with British expats. The area is extremely sought-after with golfers on holiday as it is surrounded by three fantastic 18-hole courses including the world famous Las Colinas Golf Course. If there’s an avid golfer in the family, they could go out to enjoy a nice game of golf while all the other family members are enjoying the La Fuente Centre or the nearby beaches. Over the road from La Fuente is an Aldi supermarket and just up from that are plenty of other shops. There are golf shops, estate agents, a dentist, car hire store, a betting shop and another bank. There is the also huge ‘Chino’ grocery store about 30 seconds walk to the left of La Fuente and a little further up the hill is a fully-stocked Mercadona supermarket with plenty of parking for customers.
La Fuente Centre
The La Fuente centre has two levels and due to its position on a slope both levels have access for wheelchairs. Visitors can peruse a number of different stores, a minimart and an ice cream parlour, cafés and a bakery. There’s also a selection of salons, barbers, estate agents, a pharmacy, and banks. The majority of the bars and restaurants have out door terraces and in door seating and most look out on to the centre of the square. There are also a few other establishments that don’t face the square and can be found by simply walking around the many little sections on each level.
La Fuente Centre Bars
Like most bars located in Orihuela Costa, many have food available, even if it’s only small snacks to pick at while you enjoy your drink in the sun. Evolution Bar is a friendly bar in La Fuente that has a loyal British, Dutch, Belgian fan base. A lot of tourists and local residents enjoy this bar for their cheap €2 pints of lager during happy hours. This is also a great bar if you enjoy live sports and good, home British food.
For a more luxurious place with a great range of cocktails try the Champagne Bar. Fuego is the perfect place to go for some live music and a rather spicy menu. There is also live music most evenings and a lively atmosphere at the Tradewinds Bar.
La Fuente Centre Restaurants
La Fuente centre has a wide variety of restaurants that have all kinds of food from budget menus to top quality dinning. For the kids, there is New World Chinese restaurant and La Pizzaria. Khushi along with Johnny Singh’s serve British popular curries. For those who enjoy a good steak, there is a menu in The Stone Grill where you can cook your steak according to your preferences on a hot stone. La Braseria Barbecue is a excellent value Spanish restaurant that serves delicious barbecued meats, as well as delicious seafood and fish.
Chillies is another very popular restaurant and booking is recommended. Don’t be fooled by the name the place isn’t all spice and they offer a wide menu. Isabela’s as well as La Piazza serve all your favourite meals from Italy.
One of the best known and most popular places in La Fuente Centre is The Stray Sod. It’s an Irish bar that serves healthy homemade dishes. They also serve a nice cold Guinness as well as Irish cider. They also offer an Irish Golf Society and regular live entertainment which is on most days. They also have a “What’s on Guide” outside so you can see the musical artists that will be performing over the next few weeks.
La Fuente Weather
In Orihuela Costa, where La Fuente is situated the summers are hot, humid, and mostly clear with temperatures reaching mid-to high 30’s! The winters can be long, partly cloudy; and dry with the average temperatures between 16-22 degrees. The La Fuente area enjoys over 320 days of sunshine a year.
Hi thinking of booking a break away in the sunshine and have been looking at possibly staying in the following areas: Cabo Roig, Villamartin, Torrevieja.
If I am correct Cabo Roig and Villamartin more residential but still with the option to dine out and visit bars in the area, Alicante airport about a 50 minute trip to both areas?
Is there a shopping mall near both areas?
Also if I choose Torrevieja I believe that Cabo Roig and Villamartin are only about a 10 minute journey away by car/taxi? Feedback on this would be amazing to allow me to progress my thoughts.
Hi Lee Anne Kerr, our apologies for the very late reply, for some reason we did not receive any notifications when you posted 🙁
You are correct with everything you mentioned above. Villamartin is more residential and has a large British expat population. Some use their homes as holiday homes and come out a few times a year for the amazing weather, the many golf courses, the beaches, bars and restaurants. Also, Villamartin is about 5 minutes away from one of the biggest and best shopping complexes in the Costa Blanca, La Zenia. If you enjoy shopping then we are sure you will enjoy the day or evening shopping there! Villamartin is a great place to visit or live and has plenty going on. The Villamartin Plaza is one of the main hubs for bars, restaurants and entertainment and there are tons of bars and restaurants nearby.
You are also correct about Torrevieja, it is about 10-15 mins drive away from Villamartin, La Zenia and La Fuente. Torrevieja also offers plenty of bars, restaurants, shops and beaches and also has a water park.
The whole area is great and has plenty going on. Its also a fantastic location to visit Alicante, Murcia and Cartagena which are all beautiful places to visit with plenty to see and do and only 30 minutes away.
Hi Pablo
Have Been coming to La Fuente for about 4 years I have been unable to find a website for booking accommodation to La Fuente. Do you know what website would be best to use
Hi Peter, what I would suggest is searching for “La Fuente” on Google maps. Then checking out the properties with the little pink “bed” icon. These usually indicate verified rental and lodging properties. It’s always advisable to do your research with these companies and check for reviews about them. Google is usually a reliable source for this too.
I had a quick look myself today and there are quite a few in the local area, sadly I cannot recommend any to you as we have not tested them but its something we will look into in the future to provide a little more help for our visitors 🙂
Is there an indoor soft play area here for young children aged 2 and 8. What is the cost and opening and closing times please?
Hi Gillian,
There are a few nearby in La Zenia, check out this blog post for a little more info – https://www.lazenia.com/things-to-do-with-children-costa-blanca/
Hi Pablo,
We have been visiting La Fuente for over 20 years and still enjoy it until this day! Yet, we have noticed that the accommodations are up for some renovation, and heard tiny rumors about it. Are there any plans on spicing up the place in the near future? It most likely will attract new entrepreneurs and thereby new customers 🙂
Take care and greetings from a Dutch family!
Hi Theodorus, and thank you for contacting us here 🙂
I suppose it depends on where you stay and what your budget is. There are some fantastic new developments that are being rented near La Fuente and the many golf courses nearby also offer some great accommodations and are all a short walk or drive away depending on which you choose to stay at. We also love Villamartin which is just a short walk away and there are also some good, modern properties over that way and you also have the Plaza which offers great entertainment.
As for rumours, I would not like to speculate but as Im sure you have seen over the years there are always new developments going on, sadly not all of them make the place better 🙁
Hi pablo we are visiting La Fuente for the second time this year but we can’t find a decent priced taxi to take us from Alicante airport to resort and return , do you have any suggestions please x
Hi Julie, thank you for taking the time to contact us 🙂
I cannot recommend anyone personally sorry. In the past we have used friends and done the same for them. What I would recommend however is jumping on Facebook and joining some of the local groups for Brits in the area like:
Villamartin Plaza visitors forum group ( someone posted just 3 hours ago offering airport transfers from Alicante and Murcia )
Orihuela Costa La Zenia Villamartin Cabo Roig Buy, Sell or Trade Anything
At least on these groups you ca ask some questions and see how others rate them. There are many locals that offer this service and they are usually cheaper than using taxis.
